A slice of boudoir heaven

If I were Samantha the good witch and could wiggle my nose and create the ultimate boudoir for myself this pretty much would be it!

Claudia Strassers The Paris Apartment book was first published 16 years ago, but to me it NEVER gets old. I've mentioned on many occasions this book has been my bed companion for a long time and even travelled with me to Europe as I couldn't bear to part with it. Pages 74 and 75 are almost permanently open on my dressing table and often when passing I find myself wishing I could dive into those glossy pages.

I love absolutely everything about this room, from the parquetry floors to the 12 foot high ceilings, The recessed shelving for books and treasures complete with pelmet framing. The sheepskin rugs, the painted Louis furniture, the tufted tub chairs, the silk sumptuous fabrics, the turquoise vases and the grand sparkling chandelier! I know swags and tails in most bedrooms can look completely over the top but in a room this grand how could you have anything less? Ok perhaps I would hide the speakers.

I thought I'd finish with another one of my favourite images from Claudia's book. Would you feast your eyes on this treasure trove?! You would have to call security to force me to leave such a place. It actually reminds me alot of Vintage Glamour in Enmore, Sydney. I could spend hours rummaging through that store.
If you haven't already bought this book you are missing out! It truly is a slice of heaven.

Moebius House by Tony Owen Partners in Australia

Aesthetics Home, Home Interior, Exterior Design, Unique House, Moebius House is the family house in Sydney, Australia, that faces onto views of the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge. Designed by architects Tony Owen Partners, Moebius House explores elastic home design with micro changes to design criteria, a more environmentally sensitive form of design called ‘micro design’. Micro design utilises parametric modelling software which can respond to very small changes to design input criteria. The unique form is a response to the requirements to maintain view and solar corridors.

Tony Owen Architects started by responding to the site with a series of movements which folded and twisted the space in order to maximise the changes of level, view opportunities and potential for connectivity to outside spaces at various ground planes. They created a dynamic model capable of responding to changes in these variables and allowed the models to run in real time. The architects then stopped the model when they felt they had a model which satisfied their concerns. The house has a fluidity of space which is a direct result of having a strong relationship with the surrounding landscape. Due to the complex geometry of this house and the need for such fine tolerances, we had to evolve a completely new system of fabrication and assembly for this house which more closely resembled that of a car.

One major trend from Paris and Cologne: stronger presence of wood

This is not a new trend - it was there last year, too, but

"now the innumerable tree stumps have become more bulky and the whole thing comes across as being ostentatiously in too close touch with nature"as from Stylepark describes it. And I agree to a great extent - overdoing the positive pursuit of sustainability and re-use of wood will alienate many people from the idea. On the other hand, I like the sophisticated and relaxed style of Gervasoni (above).
Some more examples:

Briccole Venezia, the design forms part of a larger project for Milan furniture company RIVA 1920 where 18 designers and architects have been asked to design products using recliamed oak from Venice’s waterways mooring posts substituted from the Venice’s lagoon because of wear and tear or breaking.
(via: Dezeen)
Base stools, design: Lukas Redwitz, made of oiled natural oak

Similar, but much more artistic are the cocktail tables from Suzanne Rippe's Bloc collection launched last week at Maison & Objet in Paris and this is an approach I strongly approve.
Examples of such approach there has been a lot at IMM Cologne, too, and I will quote again Thomas Wagner:
"In general in Cologne hand-made goods and arts and crafts would appear to be surfacing again. It is indeed amazing how quickly the void left behind in Cologne by absent designer manufacturers has been filled by handicraft beginnings or, in other words, the term design has been loosened from its industrial anchoring."

Aesthetics of a House

Aesthetics HomeWhen an architect designs a structure, the fore-most thing he does is to attempt and amalgamate it with its environs. That is how the buildings merge into their surroundings and look fabulous. Base Valley House is one such masterpiece built by an admirable aesthetic and eco-conscious designer.

Aesthetics HomeI personally liked the Base Valley House because it has an artistic appeal with a beautiful backdrop and the worthwhile sustainability. What’s your say?

Aesthetics HomeThe house has a glass roof which lets in the warm rays of the sun and its light during the day and a fascinating view of the night sky. The wooden interiors and ground flooring keep the rooms fresh, breezy and cool all round the year. The house has a carved out passage connecting it to the rocky bed of an adjacent stream that operates as an indoor circulation and gathering place. The stony walls are enclosed in a wire mesh running from outside of the house through the indoors.
